Biomethane Station Data May 2026

10 June 2026 – ReFuels N.V., a leading European supplier of renewable biomethane (Bio-CNG) for the decarbonisation of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs), today published Bio-CNG station data for May 2026.

  • CNG Fuels dispensed 5,780 tonnes of Bio-CNG from 16 public access refuelling stations, up 7% from 5,406 tonnes in May 2025
  • Average daily dispensed volume was 186 tonnes per day, compared to 174 tonnes per day in the year-earlier period
  • A daily average of 2,240 vehicles refuelled across the station network, an increase of 10% year-on-year
  • The rolling three-month average number of vehicles increased to a record 2,247 per day, up 11% year-on-year

"We continue to see growing interest in Bio-CNG from fleet operators seeking lower fuel costs, reduced emissions and greater energy resilience. Biomethane is a domestically produced alternative to imported diesel, providing fleet operators with a practical and commercially attractive pathway to decarbonisation.

May's performance was impacted by a Bio-CNG fleet growth and renewal programme at one of our larger customers, where older Bio-CNG trucks were taken out of service ahead of new CNG vehicle deliveries. We expect activity levels to increase through June and July, as the new CNG trucks are delivered to the customer who is retiring older vehicles and other customers take delivery of new CNG trucks," said Philip Fjeld, CEO and co-founder of ReFuels.

Prices for Renewable Transport Fuel Certificates (RTFCs) averaged 18.4 pence in May, compared to 25.9 pence in May 2025. As communicated in the Q4 2026 report, the expected biomethane requirement for the 2026 obligation year has been secured, and the corresponding RTFCs have been sold forward for later delivery. Most RTFCs expected to be generated for later delivery have been sold forward at around 25-26 pence, providing margin and profitability visibility for the 2026 obligation year. RTFCs are awarded at a rate of 3.8 certificates per kilogram of Bio-CNG dispensed and sold to fuel suppliers with a blending obligation under the UK's Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO) scheme.

CNG Fuels supplies biomethane through a growing network of refuelling stations, currently operating 16 public access Bio-CNG stations strategically located on major UK trucking routes. Two additional stations in Magor, South Wales, and Swindon, South-West England, are under construction to further expand network capacity.

ReFuels provides monthly operational updates, normally released within ten working days after the end of each month.
