Biomethane Station Data January 2025
11 February 2025 – ReFuels N.V., one of Europe's leading suppliers of renewable biomethane (Bio-CNG) for the decarbonisation of heavy goods vehicles, today published Bio-CNG station data for January 2025.
- 4,921 tonnes of Bio-CNG was dispensed from 15 public access refuelling stations in operation during January 2025, an increase of 13.4% from 4,339 tonnes in January 2024 (13 stations)
- The average daily dispensed volume was 159 tonnes in January 2025 compared to 140 tonnes dispensed per day in the year-earlier period
- For the three months ending 31 January 2025, the total dispensed volume was 14,897 tonnes, an increase of 16% compared to the same period in 2024
- In January, a daily average of 1,955 vehicles refuelled at ReFuels' Bio-CNG stations, compared to 1,602 vehicles for the same period last year, corresponding to a 22% growth
- Prices for Renewable Transport Fuel Certificates (RTFCs) averaged 25.4 pence in January 2025, up 41.5% compared to January 2024
“In January, truck deliveries to both existing and new customers continued. The growing fleet will increase utilisation at our Bio-CNG stations during the year ahead. The successful completion of the first trials with the new larger Scania 6×2 model is highly encouraging with close to 125,000 diesel 6×2 articulated trucks on UK roads. The 6×2 CNG offering opens a market that is 6 times larger than the UK 4×2 truck market where we are the alternative fuel market leader, almost exclusively serving nearly 10% of the UK 4×2 articulated truck fleet at our Bio-CNG stations,” said Philip Fjeld, CEO ReFuels.
ReFuels had 173 unique customer fleets refuelling across the network in the three months ending 31 January 2025, compared to 146 for the comparable period in 2024.
In addition to Bio-CNG dispensing, ReFuels generates revenue from sales of Renewable Fuel Transport Certificates (RTFCs.) Refuels is awarded 3.8 RTFCs per kilo dispensed Bio-CNG, which are sold to fuel suppliers with a blending obligation. In January, the average price per RTFC was 25.4 pence, compared with 17.98 pence in December 2023.
Through the CNG Fuels brand, ReFuels operates 15 public access Bio-CNG stations on major trucking routes in the UK. ReFuels has one station under construction in Livingston, Scotland, which will enable low-emission transport between Glasgow and Edinburgh. ReFuels has a target of 30 stations in operation or under construction by the end of 2026.
ReFuels provides monthly operational updates, which are normally released within ten working days after the end of the month.
